Every man’s standard should be the Bible. The Bible is an ancient book that has withstood the test of time. As a believer, how do I know that the Bible is true because there are many books written by different people? Other world religions have their own books, so how do I know I am reading and following the right book?
Let’s dive into it. The Bible was written by approximately 40 authors, some who had never met and some who had met. The authors had different professions. Some were kings, prophets, doctors, tent makers, fishermen, and others who walked with Jesus Christ. It was written by various authors spanning over 15 centuries. The message of each book of the Bible has always been consistent: to focus on Jesus Christ.
The Bible is divided into two parts, mainly the Old Testament and the New Testament. Moses established the OT and the NT through Christ Jesus’s death.
Hebrews 9 vs 15
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
The OT contains prophecies about Christ Jesus’s birth, death, burial, and resurrection, which were later fulfilled and accounted for in the NT.
Isaiah 7 vs 14 prophesied the birth of Jesus Christ, that he would be born of a virgin.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
This prophecy was later fulfilled in Mathew 1 vs 18-23, Luke 1vs 26-35
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[g] (which means “God with us”).
Micah prophesied that Jesus would be born in the town of Bethlehem as stipulated in Micah 5 vs 2-5
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans[b] of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
The fulfillment of the OT prophecies shows that the bible is authentic.
